Privacy Policy

RenNo Reads is a reading tracker. To do its job it has to store what you've read and what you thought of it. This page explains exactly what that means: what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how you get rid of it.
RenNo Reads is operated by RenNo Strategies LLC, an Illinois limited liability company ("we", "us"). This policy covers the RenNo Reads mobile app and the website at rennoreads.com.
The short version. We collect the account details you give us and the reading data you enter. We don't sell your information, we don't run advertising networks inside the app, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and a password, used to create and sign in to your account. Passwords are stored as salted hashes by our authentication provider — we never see or store your password itself.
- Profile details. A display name and, if you choose to add one, a profile photo.
- Your reading data. The books on your shelves, their status (Want to Read, TBR, Currently Reading, Read, Did Not Finish), your ratings, the dates you started or finished a book, and any reading goal you set.
- Imported data. If you import a Goodreads export, we read the file you upload and store the shelves, ratings and dates it contains. We never connect to your Goodreads account, and we do not collect other people's reviews.
- Messages you send us. If you contact us through the app or by email, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you.
- Early-access sign-ups. If you enter your email address on this website to join the early-access list, we store that address, the date, and which page you signed up from. We use it only to send you news about RenNo Reads before launch. We don't add it to your app account, we don't pass it to anyone else, and you can ask us to remove it at any time by emailing hello@rennoreads.com.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data. Our hosting and authentication provider records standard server information such as IP address, device type and timestamps when your app talks to our servers. This is used to keep the service running and secure.
- We do not use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking.
How we use it
We use the information above only to:
- Show you your shelves, ratings, goals and reading history across your devices;
- Recommend books and surface upcoming releases based on what you've read;
- Keep your account secure and diagnose problems;
- Answer you when you get in touch;
- Meet legal obligations.
We do not use your reading data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it.
Who else is involved
Service providers
We use Supabase to host our database, authentication and file storage. Your account and reading data live there, under our control. Supabase processes it on our behalf and is not permitted to use it for its own purposes.
Our apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which apply their own privacy policies to your use of those stores.
Book information
To show book details and cover images we query public book data sources, including Open Library and Wikidata. These requests contain the book being looked up. They do not contain your name, email address or account identifier.
Links to retailers, and affiliate commissions
Book pages link out to retailers such as Kindle, Bookshop.org, Libro.fm, Audible and Spotify. Some of these are affiliate links: if you buy something after following one, we may earn a commission from that retailer at no extra cost to you. Following such a link may allow that retailer or its affiliate network to set a cookie in your browser to attribute the sale.
Once you leave the app you are on that company's website, under their privacy policy, not ours. We receive only aggregate reports of sales and commissions — never a record identifying which RenNo Reads user bought what. Affiliate relationships never affect which books the app shows you or how they are ranked.
Legal
We may disclose information if we are required to by law, or where necessary to protect our rights, safety, or the safety of others.
Who can see your reading
Your shelves, ratings, goals and dates are private to your account by default. Our database enforces this at the row level, so one account cannot read another account's reading data.
Some content in the app is shared and visible to everyone — the book catalogue itself, upcoming release information, and screen adaptation listings. That content contains no personal information about you.
If social or book club features are added in future, anything they share will be clearly described and under your control before it is shared, and this policy will be updated first.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and reading data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete your personal and reading data from our live systems promptly, and it ages out of encrypted backups on our provider's normal backup cycle. We may retain records we are legally required to keep.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your data. Your reading data is visible and editable in the app at any time.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data from inside the app at any time: Profile → Delete account. It is immediate and permanent. If you can't reach the app, email hello@rennoreads.com from your account's email address and we'll do it for you within 30 days.
- Export. Ask us and we will send you a copy of the reading data held for your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — for example under the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR — to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising them. We honour these requests regardless of where you live. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls that restrict each account to its own rows. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, and we limit what we collect in the first place.
Children
RenNo Reads is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
We operate in the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored there. If you use RenNo Reads from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
